Kya Travels
After a sleep in today we got up and went for a walk around the old town to have a look. We wandered up and down the streets getting lost and checking out a few souvenir shops and a few menus. We got some money out (back to the Euro here! Nice and easy!) then ended up sitting at a place called Astoria. I ordered two dishes that I thought were both entree size, and Darren got a grilled salmon fillet. My dishes came out on massive plates with huge amounts of salad! I had a stuffed eggplant thing which was sooo delicious! Then I had a tortilla wrap filled with roasted veggies. I was very impressed! (And full!!) After lunch we headed back to the hostel, and had a chat with one of the receptionist guys, Kokolo. We talked about the different tours that they offer, as one girl in the hostel was keen to do one if they could get the numbers. Kokolo made a tea for him and Darren and a Turkish coffee for me and we sat on the balcony and had a chat with him for a while. After a bit, we went and got some shoes on then went out to go for a walk up the mountain to check out the fortress! We paid our €3 entry fee then started the climb up the mountain! There were so many stairs! Then there were so many more! We had to take quite a few breaks, and we were reminded again of how unfit we are! But the views all the way up were astounding. You could see the majority of the bay, and all of the town, surrounded by big beautiful mountains! It was magic! So after a VERY tough climb for us, we made it to the top! We didn't get to see the sunset as we had planned, because we didn't realize that it actually set behind a massive mountain, so the time we had looked up was wrong! It was still very light though, and we wandered around the ruins at the top of the mountain, and got some photos with the Montenegrin flag, and left a sticker of a bull on the flagpole where there were a bunch of other stickers!! We explored up the top there for a while longer and walked among the ancient ruins before deciding to head back down, as it was starting to get a little dark! We made our way down all those stairs once again, although it was significantly easier on the way down!! It was getting pretty dark by the time we got down, and it was a little hard to see the way, because although the paths were lit up, it was really only from the outside to look pretty from the town, so it was still quite dark where we were putting our feet! (Maybe even darker with the bright lights in our eyes!) When we got down the bottom we found a restaurant where we got a juice each, which was the best thing ever after our climb up the mountain! We stopped in a souvenir shop to buy a sticker for the guitar, and got talking to the girls who were working. They showed us a cool Montenegrin instrument and Darren had a play of it, then we had a chat and a laugh with the girls and they helped us place the sticker on the guitar, and were telling us a bit about some local music they wanted us to play for them! After a while we headed back to the hostel and had another juice from the cafe out the front, then shared a small pizza before heading back upstairs. We had a cuppa and Darren played a game of chess against Marko, the other receptionist, and the game lasted aaaaages! It was a tough one and Darren was winning most of the game, but Marko got it back in the end and beat him! Afterwards I played him, and got absolutely smashed in such a quick time! I think it was the longest and shortest games of chess I've ever seen! After this, Darren and I had a chat and decided we would do one of the tours tomorrow, so I went out to let them know, but they weren't running it anymore as someone had cancelled! Marko gave us some suggestions on things we could do instead though, then we just chilled out in the room for a while. We could hear music wafting through the window, and after a few songs that we knew and liked, Darren went out and across the road to check it out and I stayed in bed. He wasn't out long as the musician was almost finished, so then he came back and we went to sleep.
