Kya Travels
We woke up this morning, packed our bags and had a cup of tea before heading out and walking along the sunny waterfront to a restaurant called Buffet Fife. We got a table and were served by three different staff members who were all really nice and funny! We ordered a few things and I had to improvise a bit due to the lack of vegetarian options, and ended up with a bowl of plain gnocchi, a bowl of mushroom sauce, a plate of grilled veggies and some of Darren's capsicum dip type of thing, which I mixed all together to make one delicious meal! Darren got a mixed grill which was apparently great as well. After laughing with our waitress a bit more, we paid and headed back along the beautiful waterfront and stopped in at the market, where we looked around for a new pair of headphones for Darren, as his had broken. We ended up finding some back in the old town and not in the market, but picked up some apples from the market on our way back through. We walked back to the hostel where we had another cuppa before picking up our bags, saying goodbye to Anita, the other receptionist, then walking down to the bus station. We waited for our bus then when it arrived we checked our bags underneath then went to get a seat. I started with a bit of a snooze, as we made our way down along the beautiful Dalmation Coast towards Montenegro. After quite a while we came to the border where Croatia meets Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the bus stopped while a customs official came on board checking passports. Then I realised our passports were in the bag under the bus! Oops! He let us off to grab them and we waited outside until he had finished then he came to check ours out and told us we were stupid for leaving it under there, because 'bags get stolen'! Oops again! So I brought the passports back on board with me! We went through 2 more passport checks, back into Croatia, then over the border into Montenegro. At this border we had to get off the bus to show our passports then get back on a bit further down the road, and then someone got on the bus again just a bit further up the road and actually took our passports from us to take in and check, which was very strange and made us a bit nervous! But finally we were in Montenegro! It was well dark by this time, and as we were nearing our destination, we could see the bright moon out the windows. It was making a very strange shadow, which took me a while to figure out, it was actually the outline of huge black mountains! And the name Montenegro literally means Black Mountain, so that was very cool! The mountains were also reflected in the water of the bay of Kotor, which we were driving around, and the lights from towns along the edges here and there made for very pretty reflections on the water too! It's a pity I couldn't capture it in any photos, as it was too dark, but it sure was pretty! After a while we eventually arrived in Kotor, and after getting our bearings, we started to make our way down to the old town. The mountains surrounding Kotor were so beautiful at night, as there was a really old fortress up the very top of it, with a path that zigzagged up the mountain to it, which was all lit up and made an amazing backdrop for the town! We made our way into the old town and followed our directions to a small square, then after looking around the square for a little bit we looked up and saw a guy waving at us from one of the balconies. And that's how we found our hostel! We went upstairs to check in and had a chat to the two guys on reception, Kokolo and Marko, who were really fun and cool, then we checked into our room and dropped off our bags before one of them took us upstairs to check out the common room. We had a cuppa up there before heading back downstairs and going to bed.
