Kya Travels
We woke up early this morning to a room mate packing his bags, and rustling around noisily for half an hour (after doing it for about an hour when I was going to sleep last night!) which was very annoying! He finally left and I got back to sleep when our other room mates alarm started going off. Extremely loudly! He took ages to turn it off then snoozed it three times so we got to hear his alarm many times before he rustled around packing up for ages too! But after that I got a decent bit more sleep. I woke up still feeling a bit **** and hayfevery, so Darren went for a walk to find some food. He came back with some bakery food and we went to hang out and eat on the terrace. It was a beautiful day, so I got ready and we went for a walk down to the fruit market down the road. We got a couple of apples to munch on then got some toothpaste and brushes from the supermarket next door then walked down past the film fest towards the city park. We passed this massive pyramid building, which was all run down, with smashed windows and graffiti everywhere. It looked awesome! Apparently it used to be a sort of communism museum and now its abandoned. Some people were climbing up the outside of the pyramid which looked fun. We probably would have gave it a go if I wasn't feeling ****! We continued on our way down to the park but stopped again at a little cafe for a cup of tea, where we learned how to say thank you in Albanian (falamanderit) then went into the park. One of the first things we saw upon entering the park was a guy with a gun! He had a big rifle and charged 20 leke (~20cents) to shoot a couple of darts at a target! I wasn't interested, but Darren had a shot and got pretty close to where he was aiming! Then we kept walking. The park is huge! We ended up just wandering for a good hour or so, past restaurants, playgrounds, workout centre, trees, dogs, cats etc etc! We turned back at the point that said Military Access Only guarded by scary looking guys with big guns, and made our way back through the park. We went back through town to a Chinese restaurant called Shanghai, where I got a delicious eggplant dish and Darren got a spicy chicken dish. It was yummy! After that (very) late lunch we headed back to the hostel to grab some warmer clothes then went back in to the film festival. We went into the cinema where the film Intimate Grammar had already started, which was weird, as we were early, but we went in and got seats anyway. It turned out they had some muck up with the times and we watched the last 45 minutes of the film, then at the end someone came out and spoke in Albanian for a bit then they started the movie again from the start. So we watched the first half. When it got to the point we'd seen it from we went for a walk up the street past some girls who gave us free notebooks, advertising some communications company, then we went to a cafe for a cuppa. Afterwards we headed back to the film fest where the next movie was about to start. We found a seat (just!) and settled in to watch Mauro Is Busy. It's a comedy from Italy, and it was hilarious. A real quirky sense of humour. It was great. I recommend looking that one up! After the movie we went to a little takeaway type place called Big Byte and got some food (the Pita Pita Vegetarian was a nice one) then headed back to the hostel and went up to bed.
