This morning we woke at eight to more noises of construction but not nearly as bad as the previous morning. We went to the café to use the Internet and talk to them about getting to our next destination tomorrow, Khao Sok. It is around a six hour drive from here. Tomorrow will be an early day! Our mini bus will leave from here at six am! It will go on a ferry to Krabi where we will get another mini bus to take us the rest of the way to Khao Sok. It is very far but supposed to be gorgeous. We will be in the jungle sleeping in a tree house. Very cool and a bit intimidating haha. The staff were amazing here, at Mango, and helped us figure out the best way to get there from here for the least amount of money. Tan the lady we have been dealing with is even going to wake up tomorrow at 5am to talk to the driver and make sure we get to the right bus station. This will ensure we get the bus to our destination!
Later this morning, after everything was sorted we rented a "motorbike" AKA moped. Normally we think it is stupid for tourists to do but we are on a small island with good roads and 90% of the traffic is mopeds. Once we got it we had to purchase gas, from the same place....it came from a glass 1.5 liter pepsi bottle funneled into our tank!! It was amazing!
We rode around for awhile checking out the island and went to Klong Nin Beach, a popular and normally busy, beautiful beach. We arrived to find it almost deserted with only a few small groups of people here and there. We stayed at Klong Nin most of the day, and ate at a beachside bar/restaurant with a beautiful view.
While swimming we noticed yesterday and today that we would occasionally feel slight pinches and didn't know what caused it. Well today we saw what appeared to be tiny little jelly fish. Our guide yesterday mentioned that it was jelly fish season and said small ones will only hurt a little but are not dangerous. LAME! A tourist from Australia said they were not jelly fish but sea lice and that they only cause discomfort and are not dangerous. Still lame! This took some of the joy out of the swimming but it was still a necessity considering the heat lying on the beach!
As we laid on the beach we watched dark clouds moving in and then saw the coolest thing. We watched the rain as it raced down the beach towards us, escaping just in time to our beachside bar. Like literally you could see pouring rain 5 meters in front of you but still be in sunshine and bone-dry. Thankfully the rain lasted only around ten minutes and we were safe to leave our hideout.
We left the beach and rode back across the island to our place. Here we went for dinner down the street and sat on another awesome dock patio. After our great meals we came back to our room and packed up our bags, showered, and wrote this post while laying in the hammock soaking in the sound of the ocean below us. What a gorgeous place this is!
Once we arrive in Khao Sok we may have Internet at the main office to use but who knows how far that is from our room! So perhaps you won't hear from us again until Bangkok on November 2nd when we meet up with Michelle and Jason! We will see, but no worries if all goes quiet for a couple days. Happy Halloween!
