Today we did a route that should eventually bring us to Castel Sant'Angelo near the river Tiber. On our route we (of course) found some churches and even found a park with big bronze statue of an army officer and his horse. There was even an unused guard house, which we used for a funny picture. A bit further, the Palazzo del Quirinale two of these guard houses still in use by officers with guns. Must be hard to stand still all the time! In front of this building was also a big obelisk and a nice view of the Vatican. We went down the stairs next to the building and ascended from the hill until we came to one of the highlights of this day. There was the Trevi fountain. We were very impressed by its splendor and the beautiful and fantasy like statues. It was very clear this was one of the most visited attractions of Rome because it was VERY busy. We managed to squeeze trough and got some nice pictures. When we continued our route we came across a street with many artists with paintings and such. There was one woman who cought our eyes. She made some terrific photographs of Rome and its main attractions. We eventually bought two, one with the Castel Sant'Angelo with a very nice angle and atmosphere and one with a random house in Rome with nice colors and a cat. Then the weather turned to worse and little by little it started to rain... but a little bit of rain does not stop us! The route also included the Pantheon we already visited a couple of times but the stores were open for a change, so we did some shopping as well. We even found some souvenirs! When we continued our route we saw some new nice churches, but we only looked at them from the outside. We tried to see more than churches for a change. We also saw some nice fountains and some random nice views. There were also a lot of nice little stores with all their unique items. Then we finally arrived at the river Tiber where we crossed a big bridge that led us to a big building that looked important (likely from the Justice department). Since the rain was getting worse we eventually bought an umbrella to continue our walk. Then we finally got a glimse of our final destination: Castel Sant'Angelo. We went inside to see the interior and to stand on top for the nice view. The structure was quite amazing. Although most parts were stripped it was amazing to see what different functions this building had in the course of history (house, fort, burial, museum). There were many items and paintings displayed in some rooms but it was really too bad you were not allowed to take any pictures... On top it was not so pleasant with the rain and wind, but luckily there were some parts where you could take cover and we of course had our umbrella. Ironically, when we finished our visit, the weather cleared and the rain stopped. We had finished our route so we went to a shopping district and eventually found a nice restaurant near the Pantheon where we tried two of the "normal" courses but soon discovered that it was way too much to eat. As dessert we went to Giolitti which was the best ice-cream in Rome. We already saw many people waiting in line when we passed it while looking for a restaurant. There was still a line when we returned like 21:15. We discovered it was even open till 01:30! And yes, it was the best ice cream we ever tasted!
