Today we planned to go to the Villa Borghese Park. Along the way we came across a church (Basilica Santa Maria Degli Angeli e Dei Martiri). Although the building itself gave no great promises, the inside was quite impressive. The statues, decorated columns and ceilings were a nice surprise. After we enjoyed the inside splendor we continued our walk to the park. While walking we already noticed this was a very different part of Rome. Everything was clean, the buildings were kept in a good condition and of course a lot of shops with the high value brands like Gucci, Cartier and such. All the bars and restaurants looked high value too, with of course a high standard price. There were not even street vendors who bug you on every tourist location. Between all this luxury we found a small bakery where we had something to drink and eat for a normal price. When continuing our walk we came across the American Embassy who had an extra fence around it so that you could not get close by. Guess they took extra security measures due to recent events. When we arrived at the park we were greeted by a building with an eagle on top. It looked somewhat like the sewer entrances you can use in Assassins Creed Brotherhood (Xbox360 game) but then a lot bigger. The park itself was not very big, but you could rent any means of transportation like a electric bike for 4 persons or a Segway. We saw a few buildings, some statues and of course some fountains. There was a villa in the park that was transformed to a museum (Museo e Galleria Borghese), we were not sure if we wanted to visit, but after we saw the sign that all tickets were sold out until next Tuesday, the choice was not hard to make. After our park visit we tried to get to the famous Spanish stairs, but unfortunately the stairs were closed because of some sort of singing event (on the stairs). So we continued to the shopping district to enjoy a big variety of shops. We tried to have a nice dinner near Piazza del Popolo but unfortunately it was not a success, and worse... expensive too! So never have dinner in front of a tourist attraction, they will charge a lot for drinks and bad food! While in the neighborhood there were (of course) a lot of beautiful buildings we encountered, but we must confess that we do not know the names of every one of them. In Rome it feels like almost every corner has some ancient building worth photographing... When finished shopping we went to the famous ice-cream shop from yesterday and enjoyed all the commotion there while eating. The plan was to return to the hotel but we encountered a museum (Mercati di Traiano & Museo dei Fori Imperiali) which was still open due to "museum night" and the entrance free of charge. We went inside to take the chance to get nice pictures of the overview of Rome in the twilight on the 2nd floor. A chance of a lifetime. And then we visited the rest of the museum as well which had a lot of (parts of) statues which were found in the remaining ruins of the market buildings and the surrounding land. After that we went to the Colosseum because we thought there was a chance it was open because of the "museum night". But unfortunately it was not open, but we still got some great pictures of the outside. Then we finally went back to our hotel where our feet and legs could rest!
