For those of you impressed with my climb yesterday you can be unimpressed today. I must have entered incorrect numbers into my metric conversion app. As soon as I posted I realized that the information didn't make sense. The climb was actually about 4,000 feet, no small feat. My small feet appreciated that they didn't have the additional 2000 ft. to climb.
As many of you know today is Larry's birthday. I decided to think of a birthday as a happy occasion. The hike today was one of the most beautiful of the Camino. I saw vistas of lovely mountains, deep valleys, gorgeous farmland, woodlands providing much needed shade, and the sound of burbling mountain streams. Some of the landscape reminded me of Western Massachusetts.
As I sit here writing, the private hostel I'm staying at is playing Celtic music, which Larry always enjoyed. Apparently, Galician culture finds it's roots in Celtic culture.
I remain pleasantly surprised that the number of pilgrims is very reasonable. I expected crowds of people. Tomorrow I'll walk through Sarria that is the closest city to the 1000 kilometer mark, which has to be walked in order to earn one's compostela, the certificate. Maybe the crowds will begin then.
The place I'm staying at will be serving a vegetarian dinner. Yay!
