Once apon a time I thought that given the choice I would come back as a panda bear (mainly because they just sit around eating 2/3rds of their body weight each day) but now I think I'll come back as a fish! Mind you, given the current state of my arms I guess I would have to be a red fish that radiates heat as they swim by... attractive!
But deciding to splash out (get it? Just for alice!) and do this dive course was definitely a good move - I think I'm addicted already! I thought that being underwater would freak me out and that I would be the diver thrashing around at the bottom having a panic that they show on the 'what not to do' parts of the videos but its actually not bad at all! Today we did 2 dives and of both of them I had the most air left out of us new divers. Meaning that, providing I wasn't holding my breathe (trust me, I'm not suicidal!), I took good long deep breaths.
Swimming over all the coral and among the fish was awesome! We saw a stingray, lots of sea slugs, freaky fish with fangs and the cutest little nemo family with very protective parents - you have to be admiring of a tiny little orange fish that swims straight at giant odd looking divers when they get anywhere near its little underwater nest!
Arriving back from our dives we sat our theory test. This, in my opinion, seemed a bit much like school - physics even! But eventually I got my paper back (100%!) so now, after my 2 dives tomorrow, I will be PADI qualified!
In the meantime I am enjoying the gorgeous weather of Zanzibar (a little too much but my arm colour....) although its a bit strange travelling alone again after having the hilarious company of my Mum and sis (my abs are wondering where their daily workouts are! hehe). Despite that I have found a nice little local restaurant around the corner from where I stay where I can sit, this time without my dive book to study, and eat rice, beans and fish (eyes included Alice) and a soda water for about $1.60.
So with that calling my name - Kwa heri!
