The last week has been spent hoisting the staysail and furling the canopy. Before setting off it was important to reef the mainsail as the wind was on the nose, this was done using reef knots obviously. I then winched the halyard and pulled the mainsail sheets tight. Down in the galley things were tough as the boat was pitching and rolling but fortunately careful stowing in the pilot berths ensured that my belongings were safe. Luckily we were able monitor the GPS before plotting our position on the charts to ensure that we didn’t run aground. Being the cabin slave I pumped the bilge and coiled the sheets on the cabin top.
That is for Alice, my very boatie sister...
The highlight of the Seychelles so far is definitely a tie between Mums baking and the tortoises on Curieuse Island. The tortoises were so cute! They are huge and pretty much just chill there eating all the time before occasionally lifting their bulky shells to find more food (sounds like a great life to me!). But arriving on the boat to meet lemon slice and chocolate cake defiantely made my year!
Its really really sunny here now so spend most of my time nice and red after getting burnt (not intentionally!). The water is a really beautiful greeny colour and there are heaps of fish and even freaky eel/sea snake things that I met when I was snorkelling (I swam off rather fast!).
Not sure about my boatie skills, I seem to have numerous bruises on my shins from failing to master the skill of walking around the boat without wacking into things...
