Athens. Athens is an amazing city. We are so glad that we came to see your splendor.

However any trip we take there must be some (mis) adventure along the way. And this morning we got that box checked first thing!

Lazaro and I like to travel—but our circumstances require us to travel on a budget. One strategy we use is to book lodging that has a small kitchen. This trip is no exception. Our cute little apartment has a little fridge, microwave, stove. Yesterday we went to a shop and bought breakfast provisions (eggs & peppers). However, disaster struck when Lazaro couldn’t get the stove to stay on. So no cooked breakfast for us :( . One not to be deterred especially when hungry we went to a little corner coffee shop and shared a yummy breakfast calzone type thing. Delicious!

Next, we headed down the street (5-8 min walk) to the Acropolis. I am not exactly sure what I thought it would be—but it was awe inspiring. The pictures I am sure do not do it justice (but we will show you just the same).

On our way “home” we stopped for lunch provisions and adapted to the Greek philosophy of taking an afternoon siesta.

Feeling refreshed, this afternoon we went to the Acropolis Museum. The Acropolis Museum is dedicated to showing antiquities from the Acropolis. If we were to go again to the Acropolis Museum we will probably book a tour guide because there is a lot history and little context provided. A couple of times we were near some guides and they were sharing all kinds of interesting facts like Lions used to live in Greece! Who knew.?

This evening we went to an outdoor cinema called Cine Paris. The movie was a remake of an Agatha Christie film called Crooked House. It was an English with Greek subtitles. The movie theater was located in the city with a backdrop of the Acropolis! It was a great evening and Lazaro and I had a wonderful time exploring the city on foot. We were totally amazed that the city was so alive at 10:45 when we were walking back to our hotel.

Looking forward to seeing more of the great city tomorrow when we take a hop on hop off tour before heading to the airport when we head to the islands. Until next time!!
