Kim's Travels
Hello hello hello. Thank you for the messages (Mum, Tina), very very very much appreciated. Well, today we got up at the crack of dawn in Wellington to get the ferry to Picton (North to South Island). This was a three hour journey so of course called for some serious sleeping. Once at Picton we hopped on our magicbus with our new driver; crazy Lauren! We drove through hundreds and hundreds of pine trees in the forest and a couple of little villages - one where Captain Cook met a Mauri tribe in the 1700's and was given a carved bone (very important in mauri culture) and from there on always wore it round his neck (and sucked it when he was nervous... it takes all sorts) only to later discover it was from a cannibal mauri tribe; it was a human bone... EW! Then we drove through the Rai Village which is famous for baking an 18 meter french stick to feed to the french rugby team... again... it takes all sorts! We stopped off for lunch in a national park, seeing a really cute three week old piglet! Once we arrived in Nelson, we checked out the town; quite cute, not much around; waterfront, pretty park etc etc. We had our free soup in our fab little hostel and now we're heading out for a night out. Tomorrow; Greymouth - where ever that is! Sorry its all quite boring at the mo, will keep in touch of course. Love ya'll.
