Hi Everyone, hope all is well?
On Monday we left Potosi to head to Sucre. We took a taxi as it was only a two and a half hour journey and public buses in Bolivia are terrible. Sucre is the official capital of Bolivia but only has a population of 240,000 therefore the city still has a lot of colonial history, lots of cobbled streets and old buildings. When we got there we checked into our hotel and ended up being upgraded for the first night as they had double booked us. It was great, flat screen tv, mini bar and sofa! We went for lunch and then for a wonder and within 5 minutes Kim had lead us into a chocolate shop - no suprises there! The rest of the afternoon we spent wondering and in the evening we went to Joyride Cafe which has a mini cinema upstairs. We watched The Devil´s Miner, which is a docu-film about a young boy miner in Potosi´s mines (the mines that we visited). Afterwards we had dinner in the restaurant downstairs.
On Tuesday we had an interesting ride to the dinosaur footprint park. The vehicle was called a bus but was actually an open top truck with seats in the back. The dinosaur park was a bit naff but we saw "genuine" fossilised footprints. In the afternoon we walked around the town looking at the handicraft shops. Kim bought 2 bags but Tom was bored after the first shop, he thinks all the stuff looks the same. In the evening we went to a french restaurant. Our food took hours to come out and when it did it was cold! We all had a lot of time to drink alot of wine before the food came out, so we decided to make use of it and go out on the lash! We ended up in a dodgy, grotty Bolivian club doing karaoke, it was so clean that Tom saw a mouse run under the sofa!
Wednesday we were feeling pretty hungover so didn´t do much. We just watched a couple of films in the room and went for a walk down to the park. In the evening we went for dinner and we both shared a Bolivian dish called ´Picho a la Macho´ which was yummy! - Beef, chicken and sausage in a spicy sauce on a pile of chips.
Thursday we chilled out again as we were getting the night bus to Cochabamba in the evening. We had a bite to eat for lunch and somehow ended up in another chocolate shop (Kim), before leaving for the bus station at 6pm. The night bus was interesting, sopme french girl in front of Tom broke her seat in the middle of the night and was pretty much lying in his lap! haha!
Yesterday we arrived in Cochabamba - what a horrible place! Our hostel was right in the middle of a place that Lonely Planet advises as a no go area - eek! the people were horrible and it was dirty, two of our friends went to the market and got spat on!We took a walk around and jumped in a cable car up to the top to see another Christ the Redeemer statue, only half the size of Rio´s but still quite impressive. In the evening we got halloween stuff and went to an all you can eat buffet. We were so glad to leave that place this morning!
We have just arrived in La Paz after a horrible 10 hour bus journey. We are going to a Thai restaurant tonight run by Germans, which could be interesting! We have been told that the next couple days are national holidays in Bolivia so not much is going to be open - great!
Speak to you again soon.
