Hi Folks
Can´t believe we have been away for 7 weeks already! Time is flying by!
In La Paz at the moment, arrived Friday evening. On Saturday most of the city was closed due to the national holiday so we ended up walking down the street market which was like a big bizzare, selling all sorts of foods and produce. We also went to another handicraft market and Kim bought more stuff (Tom said he is not going to another South American handicraft market on this trip, they´re all the same!) The Witches market was quite cool though (according to Tom, Kim thought it was grose!) it was full of Llama fetuses, dried frogs, animal skins and all sorts of skulls and stuffed animals. In the evening we went to Mongo´s restaurant as it was our tour leaders last night with us. We had really good homemade burgers and the lads thought it was a good idea to buy a bottle of fernet (a really strong spirit) and get drunk even though they had to get up early the next morning!
Yesterday we got up early (some of us hungover - Tom) to tackle the infamous Death Road, the most dangerous road in the world! It was awsome! Cycling 65km (41 miles) some of us reaching possible speeds of 55kmph! The first stretch was tarmac but the rest of it was gravel track along the edge of a cliff, some parts the drop was 400 metres. Wicked day - Death Road survivors! woohoo! Best day in Bolivia so far. When we got back we met our new tour leader, again called Martin, he seems pretty cool.
Today we chilled out knackard and aching from yesterday´s bike ride. This afternoon we went to see Valley of the Moon. The valley had quite a cool landscape - it´s what you´d imagine the surface of the moon to look like.
Tomorrow we are leaving early to get the bus to Puno in Peru on the edge of Lake Titikaka.
Catch you soon.
Love us x x x
