We headed off to the depths of Victoria to visit Trevor & Kath, friends we met on our Africa trip. The day didn't start off too well as we didn't know where Trevor lived and we had no signal on our phone. We knew he bred cows so went cow spotting but every house in the town seemed to have cows - so that wasn't helpful. We then stopped and asked an elderly couple if they knew where Trevor lived. However they turned out to be English and they hadn't a clue. However the lady did excitedly tell us that her mum was born in Bedford and that they had traced their family history back to Norman Knights and Princess Diana! Random... We had to seek out a public phonebox of all things to track Trevor down.
We spent a lovely 2 days reminiscing with Trevor and Kath, helping Trevor feed his calves, discussing the finer points of de-sexing bulls ready for them to become meat, watching Kath feed an abandoned baby magpie mincemeat and trying to avoid accidentally eating the silkworms on Kaths kitchen counter next to the crudites and dips....!
We also headed out to the old gold mining township of Walhalla which has been perfectly preserved as it was in the pioneering days. We even donned our hard hats to go down the gold mine...sadly we found no gold...
