Maun was the starting point for our expedition into the Okavango Delta, one of the last true wilderness areas in Africa. We reached Lusaka, capital of Zambia, after 3 long days on the road. Crossing the border into Botswana was more interesting than other border crossings - involving a chaotic ferry port which we were warned was a haven for pick pockets. We have spent 5 nights in Livingstone rather than 2 nights here and 3 nights over the border on the Zimbabwean side of Vic Falls due to Foreign & Commonwealth advice regarding the troubles in Zimbabwe. Victoria Falls is simply stunning. We are here just after the end of rainy season so the waters are very high and the falls are at their most impressive. En route to Kande we stopped off at a 'cultural highlight of Malawi' consisting of an extremely rickety bridge over a river - made solely of bamboo stems. The bridge has been standing for over 100 years but apparently is still as useable as the day it was built!!!
