We have spent 5 nights in Livingstone rather than 2 nights here and 3 nights over the border on the Zimbabwean side of Vic Falls due to Foreign & Commonwealth advice regarding the troubles in Zimbabwe.
Victoria Falls is simply stunning. We are here just after the end of rainy season so the waters are very high and the falls are at their most impressive. We spent half a day wandering round Vic Falls National Park - getting drenched by the spray from the Falls - words can't express simply how impressive this place is.
Sadly the river is too high to try whitewater rafting but we did go out on the Zambezi rapids on a jet boat doing 360 degree spins and getting drenched - great fun! We also went up in a helicopter over the falls - the views were amazing and neither of us has been up in a helicopter before so it was a doubly great experience! Four of our party (Kristian, Seth, Ian and Trevor) went Bunji jumping and we all went along to watch and support them. They bunji'd off the border bridge between Zambia and Zimbabwe (so we did at least step into Zimbabwe after all!) The bunji left Ian with bulging eyes and Trevor with a complex about detached retinas so I'm glad we didn't try!
Our time in Livingstone was rounded up by a sunset cruise on the Zambezi in fancy dress... we'll post the pics for you to see at some point but until then just to let you know Mark was dressed as a girl in white skirt, red sequins and straw hat - very fetching! (NB: outfits were chosen by others in the group - though I'm sure Mark would have chosen exactly this outfit himself given the choice - not!) Free booze meant that the cruise was somewhat raucous and everyone had a fantastic time (I am saying no more - what happened on the booze cruise stays on the booze cruise!!!!)
On a non-related note a few people have asked both about my truck injuries and Tammys broken foot....
I am now completely recovered from my fall (although now have a few cuts and bruises from an unrelated booze cruise incident)
Tammy's foot is in a full plaster cast and she has since also had her mobile phone stolen and had an insect lay eggs in her foot so she remains the unluckiest girl in Africa although she is soldiering on bless her!
Thank you all for the messages of support - keep 'em coming!
