We were supposed to leave Samui at 6.30am, but the tuk tuk didn't come to get us until gone 7. The tuk tuk took (thats sounds stupid!) us to the ferry port where we got on a bus to go to another ferry port to go over to Donsak (Yes it was that confusing!). Anyway the ferry ride was an hour and a half and then the bus drove us to what we assume was Surat Thani and just left us at this travel agency which wasn't ours. We were sent up to another one (apparently 100m up the road - it really wasn't!) which we couldn't find. We met an Irish guy, Ed in the same situation and eventually found it. Had to wait half an hour for the mini bus, which took us to a cafe and we had to wait another hour there! When we got to the outskirts of Phuket, the driver stopped us at a travel agency in the middle of nowhere and we were frogmarched in by these girls in pink dresses who practically forced us to buy tours. We refused, though they managed to sweet talk to boys with massages! But we had to pay an extra 150 baht to get to our hostel. We paid this but when we got there, the driver had taken us to the wrong hotel and so we had to pay for a tuk tuk to our hostel, which was miles away! Anyway after all that it was 6pm so the day was a bit of a waste. We had dinner and went to bed!
We discovered buses to Patong Beach (the main beach) for 40 baht so we went there, as we were nowhere near a beach. Found Kate a Bikini and had lunch then went in the sea for a few hours. It was so hot by the time we got out we had to get off the beach, and went and had strawberry sundaes in a place called Harrys (much more upmarket than our Harrys!), did a bit more shopping and then got the bus back. The bus is more like a pick up truck with seats than an actual bus and as it was nearly the last bus it was crowded and there were people actually hanging off the back! We had pizza from the 7-11 for dinner as we somehow managed to miss the closing time of the cafe on the corner and the pizza delivery place.
Today we got a bus back from Phuket to Surat Thani, which was just as confusing as the one from Samui. But this time we had to wait for two hours in Krabi! The people in the place where we were waiting found it hilarious that we kept asking when we were going. Apparently time is not an issue in Thailand! We made it back to Surat Thani in time for our train thankfully and had another fun trip on that!
