We got the Interislander ferry over from Picton. It took three hours and was really boring. We arrived and got a free shuttle to the train station, then decided to walk to our hostel . This was a bad plan as it was a lot further away than we thought. We eventually arrived at the Cambridge Hotel and it was really nice. It's like a hotel and the showers are really fancy. It was cheap too. We didn't do alot that day, just food shopping and the internet.
The next day we got the cable car up to the Botanical Gardens. It was in fact a tram up a hill and not a cable car, much like the Gondola last week was a cable car. Its all very confusing. We couldn't find the cable car, it was hidden down a backstreet. Anyway, at the top there was a cable car museum...yes really. It was free (I mean who would pay) and it was barely even worth seeing. It is winter so the gardens were a bit pointless, we walked back down and to the city. In the afternoon we went to Te Papa, which is an art gallery/museum type thing. We went on a ride, which takes you back in time and to teh future. The future rise was good, as you see yourself on screen and when you raise your arm, the picture of you moves up and it looks as though your flying. We also solved a detective mystery (designed for kids!) and saw a load of exhibitions and stuff. It was free entry, except for the ride so it was pretty awesome.
The day after that we attempted to find the tattoo museum,my lonely planet book was wrong as it had moved so we were directed to the other side of town by someone in an art gallery, but we couldn't find it there either. We gave up after that and had free coffee from Nescafe, who had a stand out in Civic Square. We went back to the hostel after that, Kate did a puzzle but didn't manage to finish it before we had to leave for the free bbq in the hostel (you had to buy a drink and then it was free) We also did a pub quiz with Dave and Ryan, the guys in our room and Yolande, a girl Kate met in the TV room. We came 10th out of 15, which is pretty good as a lot of questions were NZ questions. After that we went to a cocktail bar called Sandwiches, which had a jazz band in and had cocktails that tasted like Angel Delight. We went home and finished Kates puzzle and played cards until the early hours of the morning.
Today we had to get up early to check out, which was kind of annoying. We went to Warehouse (where everyone gets a bargain according to the advert) and Kate bought some insanely cheap CDs. Now we're on the internet. We're getting the bus to Napier at 3pm.
