On our way up to Vilnius we were scheduled to change trains in Warsaw. We were up pretty early in the morning to pack up our things and soon began to wonder just when we were going to arrive... We thought the train was running late, so it was only when the conductor next came around that we realised exactly what was going on - we must have read the timetable wrong and had completely missed it :-/ So we got off at the next station in a town called Mława, and arranged tickets to travel back down to Warsaw.
We arrived at the main station in Warsaw in the late morning on Monday 5 November and immediately went to the ticket office to try and sort out our mess :-/ There were no more trains going up to Vilnius that day, so we booked into a hostel online and made our way there. We were pretty tired after an uncomfortable night's sleep on the train, so we had a quick lunch and then just chilled/slept until the evening. That night, Kevin and Monique took a walk into town to try and get a bit of a feel for things. From what we saw, Warszawa (as the locals call it) is a clean, modern city filled with bustling, international shops and offices (even though 85% of its buildings were destroyed in WW2.) We walked along some of the main streets and browsed in some of the shops before heading back to the hostel to sleep. We wish we had a few more days there to look around some more.
Tuesday we were up early to pack and then walked back to the train station. After double and triple checking our tickets, we boarded our train for the long journey up to Vilnius - at least it was in the day time so we could enjoy the scenery! :-)
