Our overnight train from Budapest pulled into Krakow main station just as the sun was rising on Saturday 3 November. We found a small cafe nearby where we had some coffee and pastries for breakfast while we waited for the tourist information office to open. After about an hour we gave up and just went to drop our things at the hostel and then dashed back to the main market square to catch a walking tour of the city. The tour was really interesting and took us past all the main sights in the old town, eventually finishing by the old Wawel Castle on the hill. We had our lunch overlooking the river and then slowly wandered back to the hostel where we grabbed a shower and a short nap. Later that evening we took another short walk through town to buy groceries which Monique transformed into yet another delicious dinner :-) Afterwards we spent the rest of the evening chilling at the hostel and catching up on some admin.
Sunday we were all up pretty early for the large buffet breakfast, before checking out and splitting up for the day. Jason took a train out to see Auschwitz (the infamous Nazi concentration/extermination camp) while Kevin & Monique went on a Jewish walking tour of the city, which began at the old Jewish synagogue and finished at Schindler's old factory near the old Jewish ghetto. Afterwards we found a market where we enjoyed some traditional local food for lunch (kinda like a pizza on a baguette) before walking home through the park that surrounds the old town. We took a detour back to the main market square for a bit more exploring and found a quaint little sweet shop (supposedly the "smallest sweet shop in the world") where we watched them making sweets by hand. We met Jason back at the hostel where we had dinner and relaxed for a while before packing up our things and hopping on a tram to the train station. There we boarded another overnight train to our next destination - Vilnius in Lithuania - a little bit unsure of what to expect!
