Saturday 2nd December
We drove back to Bunyonyi today - what a ride! Exhausting, bumpy, dusty but exhilarating. I'd pay good money at a fairground for this sort of thrill - riding along the edge of the cliff, getting thrown around like on an old rollercoaster or ghost train. I still can't get over the scenery here.
People don't rush in Africa - they're on Africa time because aside from tending the crops or looking after their children (who seem to do that themselves) there is nothing to do. We ordered lunch which took 2 and a half hours to come. But hey, it's ok because they're on Africa time! Hee hee.
Greetings are also very important here - it's expected that you always ask someone how they are, what their name is, tell them to have a good day and there's the hand shaking too. Lots of hand shaking for a very long time. It's also quite normal to see men walking down the street holding hands which is seen as a sign of companionship.
I love the plants here - yesterday we were shown a plant that has leaves that shrink back the instant you touch them. Just amazing. And the noises of the insects and birds are still a novelty.
