We travelled from Lima to Ica and from there to the nearby desert
oasis of Huacachina. This is a little village built around an oasis in
the giant sand dunes near Ica. Its the first real oasis Ive seen and
is a very strange site. Its featured on the back of the 50 soles note
too (see pics for details.) We only spent one night here and the main
purpose of our visit was to do some sandboarding. We took a sandbuggy
out to the biggest dunes, which was like being in a roller coaster.
The tallest dunes are hundreds of feet high. We spent about 2 hours
being driven to the top of these then sand boarding down. A bit scary
at first (the drops are sheer) but a great rush. Falling off isnt too
sore either making it all the better.
