Today we hired a small Chevrolet Aveo and drove about 30 miles west to Chantilly, Virginia to see a separate part of the Air and Space Museum which houses a huge collection of much larger aircraft featuring the B29 Superfortress Enola Gay and the Space Shuttle Discovery.Just about to retire before we get up at 2am tomorrow to catch the flight to San Francisco.

On the 4th, I listened to Queensland’s win in the State of Origin on the (internet) radio before we headed off to witness the reading of the Declaration of Independence. That was followed by the big parade along Constitution Avenue after which we visited the National Archives and saw the original Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. We spent the 3rd visiting several of the many museums that are in Washington...American Indian, Natural History, American History and Air and Space. In the American History Museum we saw the Star Spangled Banner which is a particular enormous flag that flew over one of the battlefields in the war of 1812 and was the original inspiration for the National Anthem.Weather has been fine but extremely hot with more storms expected. 4th of July should be a big day her...

Today we got around in a few taxis to see some of the memorials. First stop, the Lincoln Memorial was most impressive but it's a shame that the Reflecting Pool was drained and closed for renovation. This morning we left our New York hotel at 7am and the doorman called us a taxi. It was a bit of a challenge fitting in with all our suitcases but we made it... Just. We caught the Amtrak train to Washington from Penn Station NYC. There was a massive storm in the Washington area about 36 hours before we arrived.
