We were picked up from our hotel about 6:45am by a small bus for our day trip to Gallipoli. We had another surly driver who didn't appear to speak English at all and a 'Transit Officer' named Furkan who spoke enough English to get by with difficulty. It took about 5 and a half hours including 2 rest stops to reach the small settlement of Eceabat on the Dardanelles side of the peninsula where we stopped at a restaurant called Maydos for a reasonable 3 course lunch.

During lunch we met our tour guide (couldn't catch his name) who proved to be quite good and informative but still a little hard to understand. He took us to most of the main sights. We started with the the landing site at Anzac Cove including the small cemetery and the ceremonial site which is used on Anzac Day and we finished at the highest point of Chunuk Bair. In between we saw a number of other famous sites, cemeteries, and memorials including Johnston's Jolly, Lone Pine and The Nek and we even saw a couple places where the Australian Trenches, Tunnels and barbed wire were still in existence.

It was 5:30 by the time we got back to Eceabat. At this point the group split up to go separate ways. Most people were staying with the bus which was taking the ferry across the Dardanelles to Cannakale and staying the night. The rest of us had to wait for another bus which would take us back to Istanbul. It was supposed to pick us up at 6 but didn't arrive until about 6:30 so it's going to be a late night before we get back to our hotel....
...which it was...arrived back at the hotel just before midnight. It was a long day but well worth it.
