We got up early and caught a taxi from the hotel to Kyoto Station where we boarded a Shinkansen for Hiroshima.
We met our guide at the Granvia Hotel, adjacent to Hiroshima Station 10:30am and first visited Miyajima, famous for its Itsukushima Shrine. The red torii (gate) of the Itsukushima Shrine, possibly the most recognizable image of Japan after Mt Fuji, appears to be standing in the sea at each high tide.
After lunch, we returned to Hiroshima and walked through the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, starting from the Atomic Bomb Dome and finishing at the museum.
We had a fantastic guide for the day. Her name was Hiroki... which means child of Hiroshima and she made our day with her happy and friendly nature.
After finding dinner at the station, we caught a Shinkansen back to Kyoto.
