"When i retire, i want to move to Hervey Bay" - i think every Australian growing up says this at some stage in their life. How do I know? Because I haven seen a person under 70 in Hervey since I arrived here! It's quite unbelievable bit it's true. I'm personally going on a hunt for young people today!!
Had quite an early start today again. After having quick rushed breakfast and moving van, we were on bus towards Pier.
We had a quick tea / hot choc before boarding our boat, 'spirit of Hervey' for our whale watching trip.
It was about a 45 min ride out to the bay which had seen most activity past few days - they had seen 6 whales yesterday and 3 the day before. Hopefully that pattern will keep up!
We drove adjacent to Fraser Island on way which had some very cool spots, going to really enjoy that tomorrow!
We reached activity spot and Carol spotted some whales which alerted the crew and we steered cautiously towards them!
We had a big mother humpback who splashed around for a bit didn't breach the water (when they lift themselves out of water and do huge splash!). The entire trip continued like that, think we seen 3 whales altogether but as we thought, given what happened on way back from great barrier reef, this was a small disappointment. Anyway, not to dwell on this we arrived back at accommodation about 1.30pm and done a little tidy / wash.
We headed to Hervey Bay for stroll ad ended up walking about 8km over the esplanade, beach and pier (nearly 1km long!!) before taking goofy pics in beach at sunset. Nice relaxing afternoon before our trip to Fraser tomorrow. Apparently you can't swim off beaches at Fraser as they are shark and croc infested and the island had a dingos (dangerous dogs..) - remind me again why this is a tourist attraction????!!
Had last nights bolognese before settling back in van for an earlyish night!! Also caught up on home and away (I mean Carol did) and Masterchef australia!
