Early start today again for us - our aim initially was to go to Australia Zoo (home or ex-home of Crocodile Steve, Steve Irwin!). I always watched this guy growing up, jumping from boats and trucks onto all sorts of animals! He was a mad mother f**ker but his efforts really show today in his zoo.
We stopped at the big pineapple in Nambur which is actually closed for renovations but we came all this way and we weren't being disappointed!! So over the fence it was, a quick pic and we were back on road again!!
We reached the zoo and again, with 'our' student ID cards we got in on cheap. I say cheap, it was 47 bucks versus 59! Some very cool animals on display there, great live shows and we even got to pet kangaroos (with little joeys) plus have our picture taken with a koala (I'd say the poor little guy was off his face on drugs but still got nice pic!). Oh, his name was Jaffa and he was 5!
Once we finished with the zoo we visited the Australian wildlife hospital, which was an idea of Steve Irwin's and is located across the zoo car park today. Not much going on in there while we were in but still saw a list of animals on a board which had varying ailments..even a koala with a sprained ankle! (apparently he sprained it in a 5-aside against the Emu's).
A few days ago we decided to give Brisbane a miss as it was probably like every big city..guess where our next port of call was? Yes, Brisbane!
We checked into a site about 4km from city centre..apparently closest camp site to centre. After parking up we got bus onto city centre, bought a 2 hour all transport ticket which allowed us use all form of public transport for 2 hours! So as advised by the woman back at camp, we boarded a river ferry and saw Brisbane from the water during sunset. So glad I did Brisbane. A really cool skyline and took some great pics! We got on ferry at North bank, off then back on at Sydney road before finally getting off at South bank. While waiting on Sydney road for next ferry, this guy came surfing down the river on a surf board with an oar! Talk about trying to save $4.20!! Cheap bollix.
After we jumped at south bank we strolled past the Brisbane version of London eye before walking around shopping district. Such a cool area with so many cafés and pubs, all in pedestrianised area! I reckon it would be such a great place to live..but I'd take Mallow any day..ahem!
We shared a bratwurst on route home..the sausage was 2 foot long and the bun was a foot long! Good value!!
We got bus back to camp then before making dinner and going to sleep. Really starting to get tired about 9pm every night..not boding well for my return to Ireland!
