FINALLY!!!! A lie in this morning..well until 9ish!
We started to leave Brisbane about 10am and headed towards Byron Bay, where we booked into Broken Head Caravan park (I really want to wake up here with a massive hangover some morning so I can say I had a broken head in broken head..wonder if they sell those tshirts..!).
We drove into surfers paradise and gold coast. Going into surfers, you are greeted by sky rise buildings, hotels and apartments and about 25km away in Coolongata, they still stick their ugly heads out but it does make for a very Manhattan like skyline. It's like someone about 15 years back got paid an awful lot of money to grant silly planning permission to big shots. Its a pity because without these buildings, surfers would be a much nicer spot, much more scenic for sure, plus they wouldn't go blocking the sunshine at the beaches!!
We took a pic in car crossing into New South Wales..our 5th state out of 8 in 6 weeks! Well impressed!!
Reached Byron..noticeably much busier and buzzing (everyone walking around in Barr feet...). We checked into Broken Head park outside Byron (about 5km)..really cool place right on beach. As I type this, waves are smashing into the beach..really love dozing off near ocean.
We drove up about 15 mins to lighthouse..by the way, I don't know why in such a big tourist resort but the roads here are absolute cat. Potholes, and huge ones at that, are all over road. Invest some cash in them like, god knows they make enough from tourism. Lighthouse was cool spot, apparently the most easterly point of Oz! So we've now been to most south westerly and easterly!
We decided to drive into town where Carol announced that we should go out for drinks and dinner tomorrow night. I agreed as I love having any dinner served to me without cooking. So I said, 'sure we can get cab into town and then back out later', to which Carol said 'sure why can't we drive into town, park up and get cab back', to which i responded 'where the bloody hell are we going to sleep'. Although not a natural blond, she does worry me now and again!
We booked into sea kayaking tomorrow (where you're 'guaranteed' to see turtles, dolphins or whales!). Really looking forward to it, I'd also like to do White water rafting before I leave this place! Carol is eager to do hand gliding, weather is calm tomorrow which isn't the best so we couldn't book in for it..hopefully monday!
Had lovely peri peri chicken sandwich for dinner with fried potatoes on BBQ...get in there my son!!
