In terms of Untouched Beauty then WA has to be one of the most stunning places in the World. It is amazing to think how much people come to Australia and just do the East Coast...they are seriously missing out...The West Coast or 'Coral Coast' as it is also known is just breathtaking.
It was so great to see my dad again, I met him at the airport to begin our 3 week road adventure up the coast. We hired a lovely 4WD and didn't waste anytime. I showed him the city of Perth and Kings Park before we spent the night in Fremantle, otherwise known as 'Freo'. The next day we went to Rottnest Island, which is about half an hour off Fremantle, there are no cars on the island so you hire bikes and are free to cycle round. We had a great day and the weather was lovely. We hired snorkel kits and just stopped where we wanted and went in the water. The beaches were lovely and clean and the water was very clear. It was a lovely start to our trip and nice to spend time together.
Then we headed down the coast further south to Dunsborough where we stayed in a gorgeous hotel resort for 2 nights. We came down here to visit some of the famous Margaret River wineries and we did a all day winery tour which was great fun...It involved being picked up from your hotel, being taken to 5 wineries and having a gourmet lunch...we had about 40 tastings, visited a chocolate factory and cheese tastings...and the best thing about it was that I had my dad there who would actual buy me bottles of the gorgeous wines I liked!!
Then we began our roadtrip up north...you really start to appreciate how HUGE Australia is when you roadtrip the west coast...this state is ten times the UK alone...you drive for hours without seeing any cars and nothing but bush...Highlights of the Adventure...
Cervantes-The Pinnacle Desert...this place was so random, you drove to this park then all of a sudden the sand was really yellow/orangey and there were all sorts of shaped rock coming out of the ground...We went at Sunset as you get to see some amazing colours and shadows of the rock. It was a bit eerrie but cool.
Kalbarri- Beautiful town on the water, went to Kalbarri National Park which was stunning. Deep red rock gorges and canyons. hired our own motorboat and went along the river, got stuck in sand bars we didnt see. Quite funny.
Monkey Mia-the place I was so exctied for as its where you meet the dolphins. I was so lucky here and witihn 5 minutes of going in the sea the afternoon we arrived I had 3 dolphins swim around me! I spoke to staff there who had been there 3 months and never had that happen! Then the next morning I went down to the main area where the dolphins all visit every day and I got chosen to feed one of the dolphins-I was loving it. We had such a great time here, stayed a beachfront resort and was lovely to see the sunset from our balcony. We went on a Catamaran cruise searching for the marine life and spotted Dugongs, Dolphins and Turtles..amazing!! Then that afternoon Dad treated us to a once in a lifetime private plane charter around the Shark Bay World Heritage site---I am a very lucky girl. We spent an hour crusing the sky over what is definitely the most amazing water and cliff based scenery I have ever seen. The colours were just incredible. That evening we went on the sunset Catamaran Cruise and relaxed...WHAT A DAY!!!
After another early start we headed further north to reach the stunning Coral Bay....the water was just crystal clear. We snorkelled here for ages and it was just amazing, saw so many different types of fish and coral and even turtles just off the shore! The next day I went diving, it was amazing., Ningaloo Reef is a Marine National Park so its very well protected and fishing is prohibited etc so it was great and the coral was all in tact, the water was warm and perfectly clear and I saw so much diving, I loved it. Did 2 dives there. The water was just soo amazing, I cant even describe it. Its definitely going to be hard to top the water here.
Exmouth was the final stop up north...we didnt have time to drive any further. Exmouth itself is just a small town with not much going on...but Cape Range National Park...just amazing. We went snorkelling at two different points (one was Turquouse Bay) and it was just the most amazing snorkelling I have done anywhere in the WORLD! We had to go in hide tide and you literally step in and start floating above the corals all around you, amazing colours, amazing fish, reef sharks, tutles, everything just right in front of you. The water is so clear its like an Aquarium, we just floated for hours and saw so much it was incredible.
It was so hot though, we accidently picked the hottest month of the year to go...it peaked 45c...there were even bush fires on our way back down south and the major highway was closed and we had to do a huge detour through the outback...and almost ran out of petrol....never been so scared in my life! All part of the adventure though.
Drank good wine, cooked great BBQs, saw incredible sights and spent valuable time with my dad...such a great part of my trip. Thanks soo much dad for such an amazing time-love you!xxx
