Beginning to travel down the West Coast we started seeing a change of scenery, travelling along a lot of coastal roads it was so beautiful. We stopped at Buller Adventures where a few people when horse riding but most of us went Jet-Boating! We were excited the boat was a 'V8' and meant to be the fastest in New Zealand so we were looking forward to an exiting ride. They kitted you out head to toe in warm and waterproof stuff, so we soon got the feeling we were going to get wet. The driver was crazy and told us funny stories along the way. We got to the river attached to a tractor which was pretty funny. The ride itself was in beautiful surroundings, the sun was starting to go down but the water pretty calm. It was good fun and he did do big spins and kept speeding so close to the cliff edge that it could have easily taken my arm off if I reached out, though I think we were all a little disapointed that it didn't go AS fast as we wanted. I have been on a few of these boat things now though and none have gone above my expectations...was good fun though jetting about this wide gorge.
That night we stayed in a YHA hostel, very clean and tidy. Nice kitchen so we all just made our own dinners. There was a really cosy lounge with log fire and TV and beany bags and comfy chairs so we all just relaxed that night and watched a few films.
The next day we headed to our 'unique' overnight stop at the 'Poo Pub' at Lake Mahin'poo'nua. Named because it sounds a bit like poo, but let me assure you it had no likliness to that and the lake was actually stunning. We got there at dusk and the mountain reflections were just fading off. That night is a big fancy dress, our theme was cross dressing for the boys and bin bags for the girls. This pub/hostel is literally in the middle of nowhere and ownded by New Zealand's oldest pub owner Les, at 83 years old. Very funny man in his ways. The party was a good laugh, we made various outfits out of black bin liners and enjoyed doing the boys make up and they all brought cheap outfits for a local charity shop. Boys always seem to love dressing up as girls, though they won't out rightly admit it! Good times.
