I arrived on yet another bus to Kaikoura, famed for seeing whales and dolphins and other such sea beasties. I decided to snub them. The thought of going out to the (choppy) sea with the weather looking a little ominous and 9 degrees wasn't too appealing and overrated. There were a number of people (Kris, you were one of them weren't you??) who went and were quite sea sick. Also some people's swimming with dolphins trips were cancelled because of the weather. Instead i walked around the coast to a seal colony. On the way i stopped at a roadside seafish BBQ, a mobile BBQ plate selling mussels, crayfish and other fishy delicacies. I tried the crayfish fritter (try saying that with a mouthful) which was really yummy. Carried on round the coast to the seals. I was quite shocked (see my face) at how near the seals were - they were metres away from the pavement sprawled out like large slugs. Which was quite scary as there were signs everywhere saying don't get within 10 metres of them as they are vicious and can bite you. AAGHHHH! They looked quite lazy beasts just lying there. I carried on round the coast a little more, but it started raining so turned back.
That night i got 3 sausages from the butcher to have with some beans, and there were 4 girls (german and swiss i think) who just stood and blatently stared at me - apparently us british are a bit odd liking beans... Stop goggling at me. Also that afternoon it hailed (yes Nik, hailstones do you hear me, hailstones) brrrr.
