Braved the weather today (-5/-7) and took a self guided tour with a tourists book! This guided tour took us to the Lower part of town and pin pointed ten attractions along the way. We followed the guided walk from Parce-Royale which was a small town square; with a fountain in the centre, the Notre Dame des Victoires church overlooking the square, with beautiful buildings surrounding. The architecture is amazing here in Québec; every building is stunning!
Place-Royale is the birth place of Quebec city; was great to take in the whole ambience of the place. It wasn`t until reading this after we visited Place-Royale that we found out that - it was here where a sequence of Steven Spielberg`s "Catch me if you can" was filmed!
We then saw "Fresque des Québecois" - The mural of Québecers, which was a "masterpiece painting" on the side of a 420metre high building, depicting the cities 400 year history through the seasons. I thought it was pretty inpressive as I`ve never seen anything like this on a building before.
After walking past a few key buildings and monuments we were finally led to "Marché du viex Port" - The old harbour market, which was based next to the harbour believe it or not!
The market hosted exclusive regional country products like fresh fruit and vegetables, cakes, pastries, honey base products, a range of alcoholic drinks and Christmas crafts. It was much bigger than what I expected and everything was so colourful and fresh - it was great to walk around!
So glad we were able to get inside the warmth though, as it was freezing outside! I had two pairs of gloves on and my fingers were still frozen; they hurt they were that cold! I could have cried due to the pain from the cold!
