Last night we splurged and stayed in a B&B for a whopping £14 each per night in Plettenberg Bay (Plett to locals). This meant that Laura and I had a twin room with a bathroom to share with Rory and Shelley. We are effectively in the downstairs area of an old couples home and it is rather lovely. This morning we woke to a scrumptious breakfast laid out on a lovely dining table with a view of the sea. The house in front of our balcony meant we did not have an interrupted view of the sea, however, what we could see was a pretty damn fine and a lovely sight during brekky. We then headed to the beach for a bit of tanning time. Laura and I even braved the water which was in a word - freezing! Not sure why people were in swimming as after 10 minutes my feet were numb and I kept getting the shivers from cold blasts of water. We managed to cool off from tanning, but I think it was just a bit too cool for comfort so it was just the one dip today.
We spent this afternoon in Knysna. We had a recommendation for a hostel call Jembojo's and thankfully they could fit us in. We paid a much more reasonable £8 for the night including breakfast. The hostel is small with just one dorm room of 14 and then about 5 double and twin rooms. We were the only ones booked into the dorm so basically had a private room for 4 with our own showers and toilets. The owners, an Aussie and Brit, were a driver and tour leader in their previous lives and know Nick and Ruth. They met when the driver (Aussie, Karl) met and hooked up with a passenger on his truck (Brit, Mandy). They then went on to do a number of trips as driver/leader before settling down. It was really interesting speaking to someone who has done the trip you have done and actually knows what you are talking about and has their own takes and stories to add. We got a really good vibe here so decided to stay for 2 nights to save us packing up in the morning and having to move yet again and be homeless for the day. This worked well as we had a jam-packed day ahead of us.
Rory, Shelley and I spent the morning of 15th fine-tuning our surfing skills. We were pleased we had wet suits but were actually pleasantly surprised when the water was warm! Go figure following our big freeze in Plett. Dale our teacher was patient and most helpful by providing me with a big push when my paddle just didn't have the necessary power to allow me to catch waves easily by myself. I am not pleased to say that I am not a natural surfer chick. Dale tells me that I was overthinking it, which I just can't believe… seems my head was intent on making sure I was balanced and so I regularly found myself on my knees prior to my feet to aid stability. Definitely need to do some further work on my pop to get myself straight onto my feet from laying flat. I do also believe that the amount of salt water that was consumed weighed me down significantly and meant that the pop was just not that easily achieved.
Laura and I then spent the afternoon in the hairdressers. I was going to let my hair continue growing but was glad when the hair dresser pointed out that even if she cut off half of my hair I would still have too much. My hair really has taken off in the warm weather and the thickness is unbelievable. The hairdresser and I were on the same page, in the same book until she moved to my fringe when she seemed to pick up a completely different book and lost the whole vision of my cut whilst she hacked into my fringe. I nearly cried, but had to remind myself that it would be back soon enough. At least she did a good colour and I got a blow dry. The price was also not too hard to stomach when compared to London and Aussie prices.
