After a night of packing it was time to say goodbye to Laura this morning. We had breakfast at 7am prior to me leaving for the airport. We reminisced over breakfast about our favourite trip moments and what we hadn't done despite having had 4 months. We made a list of things that we needed to do pronto and wondered how we were going to sleep in a room with someone else going forward. Having Laura as a tent buddy certainly helped me enjoy my time in Africa to date and also provide a sane buddy when truck life was getting too much. Both of us agreed that we had got the best tent buddy. What can I say; it was emotional.
At the airport I got a small shock, when despite having donated a large bag of stuff to the hostel staff and also posting home 26kg of souvenirs, my backpack still weighed 26kg! Madam, your baggage allowance is 20kg and your bag is overweight, do you have any hand luggage? Do I have hand luggage, I was packing about 15kg of hand luggage! A quick mumble of yes: a laptop; and, camera, not wanting to prompt a weigh of my hand luggage. A quick payment of 250 Rand and I was on my way to Durban. I really need to work out what the lead weight is in my backpack prior to heading to Australia. Looks like more donations are to be made.
Met the African Impact staff at Durban and also Francine and Sophia who are also volunteers and then a quick 3 hour drive and I was home for the next 6 weeks!
