Nevis Bungy
Today was the day Laura, Rachael and Gail had been fearing. The Nevis bungy is a 134m jump, 8 second free fall and into a rocky canyon! We were meeting at The Station to check in. Neil paid to spectate so he was there to. Once we were weighed (which i feared more than the jump) and signed the waver we were put on the bus. The bus took us the 40minute journey up a ridiculously steep mountain road. Once at the top there was a guy hand making the bungy ropes eek. We were harnessed up and weighed again and with a red marker our weight was put on our hand!!!! The first group, Laura, Bridget, Pete and Mickey went across on the cable car to the jumping pod. From a very windy platform we got to watch Bridget jump and then I was in the 2nd group that went in the cable car. Laura was in a state when I got there and Pete was just about to jump! He jumped in 3 and came back up buzzing and shaking with adrenaline. Laura was so scared she didn't know if she could jump so hesitated but we shouted in support for her and after some kind words from the guide she did it and the pod screamed with happiness for her! Totes proud!
I was put in the dentist chair and as it flung back my first bit of fear hit me. Palms were sweaty as the guy started strapping up my feet. We helped me up and I waddled over to the ledge waving to Neil who watched from the otherside of the gate! I kept looking down to see what I was jumping into and Bridget and Neil kept shouting not to look down! The guy was holding my harness and my legs started to shake as he dropped the rope. On the count of 3 I asked "now" and he said "yes" and I jumped! I tried to scream but nothing came out then the bounce, on the second bounce I was supposed to pull the yellow string to pull me into the up right position. I couldn't pull it until I was being lifted up and it took multiple attempts before I managed it! I was shaking as I came up and didn't know what I could and couldn't hold onto so held onto everything! It all went so fast!
I bought the photos but allowed the video! Laura's 6 minute video was well worth the watch.
To celebrate surviving Nevis we went to the famous Fergburger. Neil and I shared half each so we got the Cockadoodle Oink (breaded chicken, applewood bacon and salad) and the Cheif Wiggim (pork pulled honey mustard cracklin and salad). Both burgers were super good and probably the best burger I have ever had!
