Sky Diving
The cheapest place to do it in the North Island, Taupo was the home to our sky diving adventure and damn I was buzzing with excited. For Neil on the other hand we were not to mention it. Ever since he had signed up for the dive he had sat quietly trying not to panic, nervous was an understatement.
Before we arrived in Taupo we stopped off at Huka Falls on a beautiful day to take some photos of the vast amounts of water charging under the bridge we were standing on. You could hear the turquoise water crashing below us.
We arrived at base to check in. The sky diving limo picked us up outside at 1:30pm. I was buzzing with excitement as we filled in our forms. Once we arrived we watched the DVD and asked which video option we would like. Neil had originally signed up for the 12,000ft but in an out of body experience he agreed to do the 15,000ft with rest of us.
Neil and I went in the first group and looked dead sexy in our outfits. I looked like an egg or cone head. We were introduced to our guides and video man and given some quick instructions. My guide was called Jason and was brilliant as he chatted to me the whole time.
I felt nervous for Neil as we got on the tiny pink plane. There was 15 of us on the plane. The views were amazing as we flew over Mt Doom and Lake Taupo (lake can fit the whole of Singapore in it). At 10,000ft we were given oxygen. At 13,000ft I sat on my guides lap so he could fasten us together (intimate much). At 15,000ft the camera guy for the first person stood hanging out of the plane while he videoed the guide and diver sitting on the edge of the plane. I was told to rest my head on his shoulder and 1,2,3 we fell. The wind hits you straight away and dries out your mouth in seconds. The camera guy instructs you while he films you. I tried to show my hands that said 'Totes Amaze' and it was! After a minute of free fall Jason pulled the parachute open and we floated. The views were mad good! I stood on his feet while Jason said he was going to make it more comfortable and loosened the straps, which made me drop slightly (this was the scariest part ha).
I absolutely loved sky diving. Buzzing off the adrenaline as soon as I touched the ground I wanted to do it again and again! To everyone's surprise Neil owned his fear and frickin loved it!
To celebrate we had the backpackers meal at base bar and partied and danced hard with the bus until 2ish. On route to McDs I threw up in every bin along the way.
Later that night/morning the Swedish girls we were sharing a room came stumbling in. The next morning they remembered nothing and Emma had a bruised eye from banging her head on the bunk bed.
We had great weather for our last day in Taupo and found the natural hot pools. The freezing lake and steaming hot pools were right next to each other. Sitting in the middle would provide you with the perfect temperature. Refreshing after a heavy night.
