It was Amanda's birthday today the same day as Georges at home. Breakfast was at 8pm and i had cereal and pineapple and cup of tea.
At 10am was a Fijian cooking lesson for $25. I watched the chef marinate Spanish mackerel in lime juice and make coconut milk from scratch. Shaving the fresh meat off the coconut and mushing it with his hands and ringing it out to make the milk. He added that to the marinated fish and then added fresh vegetables, cucumber, tomato, carrots, peppers, celery. It was refreshing, tasty and healthy exactly what you want on a Fijian island and want I'd like served for our meals. Also coconut candy was made which was so sweet.
We shared the candy with the guys outside who had been crab racing. We all got involved, Neil had a big crab called Neil and I had a little crab called Scotty but the champion was a fast little crab called Coco. After setting the crabs free we went for a swim in the pool and in no time it was lunch.
Lunch was a HUGE lamb hot dog. To eat it I left the bread and had the sausage with the salad.
I went to dress appropriately for the village visit. Geko man and ziggy took us on the boat to the otherside of the island where we had a welcoming ceremony and had to drink the kava. Neil being the only man of the visitors was our spokesman and had to accept the first cup of kava. Some of the villagers laid out blankets full of souvenirs. Amanda bought herself a bday gift, a wooden turtle and mask.
Then we walked through the village to the school. The kids were gorgeous and so excited to meet us and pose for photos shake hands and high 5! We were treated like royalty being taken a tour of the classrooms and as it was Friday afternoon the children in year groups performed a song and dance for us. We were very grateful and played a spelling game so they could win prizes. We each asked a year group a question, Neil's being the hardest asking how to spell Arsenal or Chelsea LOL! I was a brilliant afternoon!
Dinner was served early as the generator broke and we ate by candle light in the dinning room. Tomato broth for starters. Mains was a beef pattie, potato, veg and gravy. I had the same with an omelette instead of the beef pattie and it was nice. Desert was some kind of cake which I couldn't eat. Amanda was given a huge slice covered in flowers and a candle which was lovely. We sang happy birthday and ziggy serenaded us while we finished dinner.
After dinner activities started with watching the boys punch a coconut open, which is more impressive than it sounds. Then for some core body exercises. The game used three small beer bottles, the aim was to push the second bottle past the first bottle which was on the floor over an arms length away without touching the floor. There were different techniques people used. Using two bottles to slide to a plank position and lean on the third bottle while pushing the second past the first and then pushing your body weight back on the third bottle and using it to get back up. Ziggy made it look easy but and most people got the first bit down but the getting back up was the difficult bit! Neil kept on trying and nearly got the whole lot down, his competitive nature was onnnn and he did it twice but he was second to ziggy.
Then for the cereal box game but the girls I played against were way too good, a figure skater, yoga pro and masseuse and a woman with a crazy bendy back. They all managed to do the splits and lick the smallest tear of box off the floor while I looked on in jealously giving the b****y commentary drinking lots of vodka. I think I won the game of fun!
Then the staff lit a fire on the beach and we chatted until it started to rain and it was bed time.
