Diving time!
With our open water skills still fresh in our minds, we opted for 4 dives for 2700 Baht, roughly £55 - bargain! Our diving instructor, F, was great fun and added to our experience diving with Phoenix divers.
Dive One: My fifth dive (total) took place at Chumphon Pinnacle. Hailed as the best dive site the island has to offer, we were optimistic that we may see something to remember, unfortunately the only thing I'll remember is the chop. The boat was rocking and the fish weren't playing. Still, I managed to add a few new fish to the logbook in the shape of; a great barracuda, blacktip grouper and a brown marbled grouper.
Dive Two: Our second dive of the morning took place at White Rock, a dive site I used previously during my PADI open water course. It may not have as much to offer as CP as you're not going to spot a Whale Shark there anytime soon, but it's one of my favourites. Wrasse, Angelfish, Bannerfish, Butterflyfish, Parrotfish, Triggerfish, Pink Anemonefish, Redbelly Yellowtail Fusilier, and the list goes on...
Back on shore by noon, it was time to get as wet get. The 13th April will bring a smile to anyone's face who has been in South East Asia, especially Thailand on this date. Songkran! To celebrate the new year, everyone (locals and travellers) have a huge water fight for pretty much the entire 24 hours. Some people opt for buckets, some water pistols and some paint. There's always the odd snidey person who decides you need an ice bath - tw*ts!
With the festival behind us (as it's only one day on the islands), it was time to get back under the waves and down to 18 meters. We dove at Twins and Three Rock. Twins is somewhere we've been numerous times and if gets better with every dive. We saw a Saddleback Clownfish (similar to Nemo) and swam through obstacles to practice our buoyancy. All in all, two good dives with nothing our of the blue taking place.
Remember a few posts a go when I mentioned hating long journeys? Hello Malaysia.
