A new day, another long bus journey, this time to Chiang Khong, a small town that lies on the Thai-Lao border.
We left the guesthouse at 7:40am ahead of the 8:30am bus to Chiang Khong (north) via a handful of other stops, (some of which were for close to an hour) meaning the journey took 7 hours.
We arrived around 15:30 and headed straight to our guesthouse which overlooks the Mekong River and Laos. A private room with an ensuite for 300 baht. I hope this trend of cheaper accommodation continues!
After a bit of researching it works out cheaper to get the Laos visa in $ as a pose to Thai baht so I went in search of a currency exchange.
The travel shop (which also acted as a dollar exchange) was only located a few minutes from our hostel, they did however say it's better to use Thai money as a pose to a MasterCard in order to avoid charges, meaning I had to go in search of an ATM machine. Thankfully, the girl lent me her bike as the first two ATMs didn't accept MasterCard and the third was a good distance away. Especially in this heat.
Dollars in hand, we went out in search of food. We actually ate at two restaurants 'cause the food (pork red curry/pork salad) was so bad at the first. At the second we ate pancakes which worked out quite well as it's pancake day back home!
