What to do today, what to do today, lets go play with tigers!
Around 15 km outside of Chiang Mai lies Tiger Kingdom, a somewhat zoo like experience, but somewhere which allows you to actually get in the exhibition and interact with tigers.
Rather than paying 300 each for a hired songtaew from our hostel, we decided to rent a scooter for 200 which when we filled it up to the brim with fuel cost 80 (and we only used half)!
After frantically trying to google directions to the Kingdom, we headed North on the 107 main road to Mae Rim which is where Tiger Kingdom is situated.
The fee to play with tigers is a little bit on the steep side (especially with our budget) but we saw it as a once in a life time opportunity - I mean, how many people spent their Sunday afternoons face to face, hand to paw with one of planets most interesting creature!
We had 10 minutes with a small (4 month old) tiger and 15 minutes with adult tigers. I thought I'd prefer to the baby, but the 3 adult tigers were amazing and stunning. To touch them felt somewhat similar to a horse. Pure power and muscle.
After a couple of hours at TK, we headed south back to the hostel, but via Wat Phrathat, the most sacred temple in northern Thailand! Elevated some 1676 m's around sea level it gave a great view of Chiang Mai and beyond, even if it was a little spoilt but the haze below.
Scooter returned, we headed to the walking market, a market which closes an entire street once a week. In hindsight we should have probably bought more clothes rather than just browsed (there's just about enough room in my backpack to squeeze something in), but our empty stomach's got the better of us.
We ate at a local restaurant two minutes down the road from our guesthouse. Red curry, green curry or yellow curry. Decisions. I guessed a green curry would be spice free, red the opposite so opted for the yellow option. I feel like goldilocks and the three bears, but at least I've found my new favourite Thai dish - yum!
We also saw our first lady boy of the trip - another box ticked for Thailand. And something we're doing tomorrow is a first for me, but more on that later...
