J: We got to Rainbow Beach and went Surfing; well we were in Australia so it had to be done at some point. The instructor Shaun drove us for 20mins along the beach to the "good surf". We had our basic intro and into the water we went, it was brilliant fun and we had laughs trying to surf, but we all managed to catch and ride waves. Sam was my highlight, she caught her first wave and was so excited at standing she looked back to us and cheered with her arms in the air which quickly lead to a back flop into the sea. It really was excellent fun and really addictive, we spent 3 hours from start to finish and it flew past, I felt like a kid wanting just one more go time!
S: The next morning we were up at dawn again and off the Tin Can Bay to see the dolphins. These Dolphins are wild but come into the harbour every day to be fed. We were able to stand in the water and then purchase a $5 fish and hand feed the dolphins. It was an amazing experience, especially seeing a group of children with learning difficulties enjoy their moment with them, even listening to a young lad who was blind asking if he could see in the water, which was a moving moment for me. After that we headed to Pippies to get ready for Fraser Island, but first we decided to go body boarding. I'm sure these guys are trying to kill me with all these water activities lol. But I must admit I did enjoy it lots and wanted to keep going.
J: Body boarding was hilarious! Sam was now rocking the waves and doing well, Marika kept getting eaten up by the waves but the clear standout moment was when Georgie got eaten by a wave and when she was spat out her bikini bottoms were by her ankle and her top around her neck…. her face was a picture (I'm afraid I don't have a photo), she decided to put her left boob back in its place before going for the bottoms. She hadn't realised that her right boob was still loose so I shouted from afar to tell her, she then started tying bows in her bikini bottoms, I had to get within a couple meters before she could hear me say "your right tit is still out", priceless moment that brought us laughs all day long.
S: Back for showers and then for a debrief about Fraser Island, where we had to watch a video about driving on sand, which was very boring but we made it easier by drinking beer. And then we were put into teams and we were number 3, and we met Celine, Annelise, and Veerle. We had to decide on food for the next three days and lucky for us guys none of the girls were vegetarian. We popped to the local supermarket and brought enough meat to sink a ship but the bonus was it only cost $20 each. After we had done that, it was James's turn for "Come Van with me" although he did have an advantage as we allowed him to use the kitchen whilst cooking. He was very good though because while he was cooking, we played guess 'who you are' by asking questions and it was a great ice breaker to get to know everyone including Scottish.
J: Sam skipped the part that I had planned that game and had to keep coming up with new things for them to stick to their heads while I tried to cook. And having the kitchen turned out to be a hindrance as it was really busy in there and people literally took the wooden spoons out of my pots! Back tracking to the buying of ingredients though I had a plan…. I wanted to do a proper 2 course meal and I was doing so well with buying everything until it came to the chilli's. I needed a few really hot chillis and I had 90cents left but Woolworths had non in stock, I was devastated and a lovely shop assistant could tell, she called all other stores in the area to no avail, then called other smaller retailers to try help but again no one had hot chillies… I had to blow the budget and buy a fresh chilli paste which deducted me 3 points. So I managed to knock up a large vegetarian curry I learnt when in India and a Mango Sticky Rice dessert. I thought it was all good, just annoyed about those chillies! After dinner everyone sat by a camp fire and one of the guys had a guitar and it was wonderful to just enjoy the fire, friends and beer. Then Georgie pulled out a corker, in a moment of silence, she announced; "I would just like to say something…. I think your all being really antisocial" I had no idea where that came from but thankfully no one paid much attention and it made for a good laugh.
