The last couple of days have been filled with leisurely walks and delicious meals.
Due to the elections taking place nation-wide yesterday, we were provided an unforseen treat. A day without the countless buses, taxis and accompanying exhaust that has become the norm in major cities.
The sun was warm and the streets were filled with market place food. Beth and I wandered the streets and sampled some of the local specialties. First we tried Saltenas, a pastry filled with meat, vegetables and spicy sauce. It was comparable to a hot pocket of spicy stew. We then finished off lunch with Papas Rallenas (the cheese stuffed potatoes that we have sampled on a few occasions). Muy Bueno!
After lunch, the 4 of us travelled to Parque Boliviar to relax in the grass, throw the frisbee around and climb the Eiffel tower replica (about 60 stairs compared to the 1652 in France).
Back at the hostel, we showed our true commitment to North American sports by streaming the second half of the Lions football game.
We finished the day by continuing to please our taste buds. The dinner appetizer was a mini street pizza cooked by a guy with a barbeque converted into an oven on the market street followed by guacamole filled enchilladas.
Today we started the day by booking a four day off-road trip through the Salt Flats. We researched and found a reputable tour company that is going to deliver us a private tour throught the Southwest area of the country. This is the famous land were Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid made their final robbery and were last officially seen.
After booking the trip, Beth and I spent the next three hours with our Spanish teacher Berta. She was very pleased with our homework and helped us learn how to speak in both the past and future tenses.
We spent the afternoon walking to and from the bus terminal on the far side of town to buy tickets for tomorrow and we then enjoyed one final delicious meal in Sucre this evening.
Off to Uyuni tomorrow and then into Salt Flats Wednesday morning!
