From DC to NYC - we parked Frank up in Harlem to hang out with other old bangers and made our way to cousin Penny's fabulous 35th floor apartment on the Upper East Side (Frank really would have felt out of place amongst the BMWs and Lincolns there).Thank you so much again Penny for such a treat!Luckily we made it inside in time before a massive storm and tornado decided to rip its way through Manhattan! The local news was telling us all to seek cover in the basement and not stand by any windows which was in slight contrast to us excitedly standing right up against the wall of windows in the apartment trying to capture the whole thing on film!
With the sun back out the next day, we went Antony Gormley statue spotting in Madison Square and took a ride on the hilariously noisy and very wet shark boat that wasn't there the last time we were both in New York.In the evening we met up with the lovely Laura who we'd met in Guatemala and went to this cool art battle thing - as we're told "it's very New York".Basically 4 artists are given blank canvases at the start of the night and within a few hours they have to come up with a masterpiece whilst the venue fills with noisy revellers who then drunkenly bid for the finished work. And one of those drunken bidding revellers of course was Anton…Yes we are now the proud owners of a very cool bit of art painted right before our very eyes. The problem being it's a massive canvas and well, we're travelling, so let's just say we must have been an interesting sight traipsing around Greenwich Village late on a Saturday night carrying a massive painting of a woman's head to Laura's place.Hopefully our lovely lady, who we've named 'Laura' after our very helpful helper, is currently making its way to the UK via the boys at FedEx.
The next day we had more crazy American weather and got soaked whilst attempting to laze off our hangovers reading the papers and eating bagels in Central Park. The day after that we took ourselves over the water and had a great day wandering the neighbourhoods and parks of Brooklyn whilst a very nice man gave Frank the once over as he's been making a lot of rattling noises lately. One mended Frank later and it was time to leave the Big Apple.Love that city.
