Katie's Adventures
I've finally made it to Sydney and my Intrepid Tour officially finishes on Tuesday. The last week has been more laid back - I spent two days on a sheep farm and the weather was nasty! Raining and cold, just like Winter in England. The family that looked after us were nice, fed us so well, even had a roast dinner! We helped out on the farm, including riding motorbikes to get the sheep together and then we all had a go at drenching them (a bit like worming a dog!). No sheep shearing as the sheep were too wet and it makes it difficult. We lit a bonfire and cleared a field and burnt the wood and ended up cooking lunch on it! I spent the rest of the afternoon watching films as the weather was crap!
Thursday we went to Myall Lakes for one night, the accommodation was lovely. Emily and I had our own cabin and it was really modern, we each had an ensuite in our bedrooms and a huge double bed, so wasted! I cooked dinner for the group, just Spag Bol but I bet your impressed Mum and Dad - in fact, I've done far more cooking than I thought for other people! We left Myall Lake on Friday and drove to Hunter Valley. We stopped at some vineyards before we got to our accommodation and the wine is amazing! So are the olive oils and olives! Felt a bit tipsy after a few tasters, so we headed to our cabin and cooked a BBQ.
Yesterday we had a lie-in (much needed as we had the noisiest neighbours and considering we were in the middle of nowhere...!?) and then drove to the kind of shopping centre in Hunter Valley for a look around and lunch. Quite expensive for us backpackers! We hired bikes in the afternoon and rode around the vineyards. Considering it was the second day of Spring it was still 27 degrees so the riding was hard work. I really thought I might die! Anyway, after a few vineyards we went to one Trish recommended which was run by a guy called Graham. He kept topping our glasses up, tried all sorts of lovely wines and a gorgeous chocloate liquer!!! Out of this world, especially if you're a chocholic! We left after an hour quite tipsy! I had to have a new bike delivered as mine got a flat tyre - must be the weight from all the good food and drink I've been having, he he!
So today we got up early and left Hunter Valley at 8am for Sydney. We arrived an hour ago and have just had an early lunch as we're off to an Aussie Rules game at 1 - Sydney Swans. I am meeting Pete in 20 mins which I am looking forward to! It's been just over 5 months since I've seen my little bro! Sydney so far looks nice, we drove over the Sydney Bridge and past the Opera House, amazing sight!
Kay is coming down to Sydney on Tuesday for a few days and am looking forward to seeing her again and just laiughing solid for a few days! x x x
