A genuine Auusie said "G'day" to me this morning! :D
First nights sleep in the camper wasn't the vest ever and neither of us woke as early as we had thought!!! The two bits of matress I was sleeping on kept slipping apart and I ended up sliding down the middle!!!!! I also tied myself in knots with the sleeping bag! Oh well it's all part of the fun!!!! We opened the door to find that it was a lovely day and not too cold! We had eggs on toast for our breakfast and headed onto the road!!!!!
Had a pretty full on day about 7 1/2 hours on the road although because we stopped and started alot we didn't acutally get very far!!!! First stop was Erskin Falls which were about 10km outside of Lorne up a pretty steep hill which Seymor only just made it up!!!!! We walked down a fair few very muddy steps to a really pretty waterfall it was so delicate compared with the really powerful ones in New Zealand. Back up the steps - we were building up pur bodies ready for our chocolate treat tonight! From Erskin Falls we took a little detour on our way back to Lorne to a place called Teddy's Lookout where we could see some way along the coast towards the part of the road that we drove today. The weather was stunning today and the mornign driving was beautifully sceninc - we stopped a fair few times for photos. We got to a place called Kennett River which the woman at the the tourist info centre had pointed out to us as a good place to spot koalas in the trees. After a little bit of faffing about trying to find somewhere to park we were walking over to a little centre when a REAL LIFE WILD koala came running across the road!!!!! They are really lazy creatures and it is so rare to see one out of a tree!!!!!! It was alot bigger than I was expecting it to be! As we wandered across the road we saw parrots and a couple that we had got chatting to at the campsite last night had bought some bird seed which they shared with us and the wild parrots sat on our arms and ate right out of our hands! In the tree above us there was another koala chilling and having a good old scratch!!!! It was awesome and so so Australia!!!!!! :D We then headed to Appollo Bay and up to a place called Marriners Lookout - only to find that this was closed! Next we headed to Cape Otway - "The highlight of the Great Ocean Road" apprently. There is a lighthouse here that was built in 1848 to stop all the ships from crashing along what is known as the ship wreck coast. As we pulled into the carpark there was no sign of any lighthouse and it turned out we had to pay $14.50 to go and see it!!!!! I'm not entirely sure it was worth this much but there were some spectacular views and we got a cool photo of me "holding the lighthouse" - clever camera work!!!!! Our final stop for the day was at the 12 appostles and we arrived at the perfect time just as the sun was setting! There aren't actually 12 anymore as some of the rock formations have now fallen down. Finally onto Port Campbell which was our base for this evening! We drove around a few roundabouts more than once trying to find the camp site luckily 13 years of caravanning has trained my eyes to spot campsite signs!!! and at about 5.30 we rocked up to Port Campbell CAravan Park. It took us a while to locate our pitch in the dark and then even longer for me to work out how to park the van for the night!!!! Another awesome serving of spag bol cooked again on our little stove in the dark!!!!! Planned tomorrow over tea and chocolate and then turned in for another early night!
