Hello, long time no see.
We have been in India for a week now and so far it has been lovely and not so lovely. We had our first four nights in Mumbai which we really liked. It was nothing like we expected, everyone tells you it is a massive culture shock but we didn't find that. The temp was lovely as well, like a warm summers day at home. We stayed at the YWCA which was really nice as breakfast and dinner were included. This was a nice introduction as it meant we didn't go out at night and we didn't need to make decisions about where to eat. In Mumbai we went to Elephanta Island which had an amazing temple carved out of the rock, it was just stunning. What made it more fun was the free tour you get round the temple, led by a lovely Indian lady. The rest of the group consisted entirely of beautifully dressed Indian women who were really entertaining. We also went for a drink at the Taj Mahal hotel which we could just about afford - security was pretty tight as this was one of the main places involved in the 2008 terror attacks.
The highlight of our time in Delhi was the night we spent at the Hard Rock Cafe's Annual Rock Awards. We saw 6 Indian rock bands including death metal bands 'Demonic Resurection' and 'Scribe' and funk-metal 'Tough on Tobacco'. The quality of the bands was just outstanding and it is nice to see that the outfits of death metal bands and people who go to rock gigs are the same worldwide.
We then flew from Mumbai to Delhi and we were struck by the ninja that is Delhi Belly. We hadn't even eaten any food in Delhi, but as soon as we landed we both started throwing up. We have spent the last three days lying down, and intend to spend a few more days doing the same. We are getting an over night train to Udaipur tonight which is hopefully a pretty town on a lake.
Hope all is well at home, missing you.
