Hello
Cambodia is awesome.
We met up with our friends Neil and Ali in Ho Chi Minh and spent a few days there with a trip out to see the Cao Dai Temple (the home of a modern Vietnamese religion) and the Cu Cu Chi tunnels which the Vietcong used in their guerilla war on the South. We then spent a couple of days bussing and boating around the Mekong Delta and stayed in a homestay on a small island which was cool.
Got a boat up to Phnom Penh in Cambodia - one of the most beautiful cities we've ever seen. Temples, a palace, colonial buildings, museums, a lovely riverfront and amazing restaurants. We loved it. For those who saw the awful news of the deaths at a festival here, we arrived a few days after on the National Day of Mourning. Also pretty shocked to see the North and South Koreans exchanging fire and the tensions ramping up there just a couple of weeks after we left. I'm sure those tours to the border that we took aren't running now.
Our next stop after Phnpm Penh was Siem Reap and the temples of Angkor. I had no idea how extensive this area was, it just goes on forever. We had three whole days exploring and only touched a tiny portion of it all! The highlights were Ta Phrom where Tomb Raider was filmed, Bayon temple which has thousands of faces carved into the rock and an amazing carved river bed at the top of a mountain called Kbal Spean. We're just about to leave Siem Reap on a boat down to Battambang, our last stop in Cambodia before Bangkok. Everyone should come to this country. Along with Luang Prabang in Laos and Hanoi in Vietnam, Phnom Penh and Angkor are the highlights of South East Asia.
Hope everyone is well back home.
