Kate's Chronicles
One of the things that has amazed me is the houses and the kaleidoscope of colour that people use to paint them. As we drive along the city and country roads one only has to glance out the window to see yet another vividly coloured house. Even going for a walk in the small villages one is hit by a riot of colour peeping out from behind the trees.
There is clearly a vast difference in wealth and lifestyle amongst the Sri Lankans. Some living in mansions surrounded by manicured gardens and protested by high fences. Some live in tiny cottages or mere shanties often attached to their place of business. Regardless of the house size the yards were always maintained even if it was simply raking over dirt but many had put in gardens and paths
No matter where they live the people are always welcoming with a huge beaming smile and this is one of the things that makes Sri Lanka so special.
Not only houses but many businesses were also brightly painted. No one seemed to want just plain brickwork or mundane concrete!!
So here is a glimpse of the many colours that I saw......mind you I missed getting photos of just as many other colours as it took me a few days to realise that this was an ongoing sight that i would see on my travels around the country.
