Kate's Chronicles
Its hard to believe its time to say goodbye. Have had the honour of visiting two wonderful, beautiful countries that are both emerging from years of warfare and turmoil and yet have so much to offer. Managed to get some final photos from the roof top restaurant in the hotel before I depart for the airport. Oh dear another 2 flights to get through today....but at least this time I'll be on big planes. Mind you I did survive the baby ones.....amazing what i can get through when I am determined!!!
So what have been the highlights for me???? There are so many it is hard to choose. Of course seeing the internationally known sites of Luang Prabang, Angkor temples, mysterious Plain of Jars, Choeung Ek and the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum will always remain in my memories. However I also loved the slow boat down the Mekong river, meeting the local people, seeing the cultural diversity of each country, admiring the resilience of the people, smiling faces, cheerful greetings wherever you go and the laid back pace of life.
Will I return??? I definitely hope so. There is still much to see in both countries so I'm guessing my love affair with SE Asia will not be over any time soon.....
Would I recommend these countries to visit......DEFINITELY.
These hidden gems of Indochina will not remain hidden for much longer. I certainly think you would love both places if you enjoy embracing different cultures, learning about different ways of life and generally having an interesting and relaxing holiday. Laos and Cambodia can offer you this and so much more..............
Bye for now. xxx

Di What an amazing couple of countries! Such beautiful countryside and obviously friendly people with no wealth. It does say a lot about life's priorities. Miss you sis.
