Budapest is pretty cool, it's got a lot of potential to be something more, it just seems a little run down. Last night us girls went across the river into Buda and drunk champagne in a really cool bar by the river while the boys stayed in Pest drinking beer and eating pizza. The city looks pretty cool lit up at night.
Today we walked towards the Szechenyi baths, which is the largest natural spring baths in Europe. They were really cool! Confusing to get around the inside where you walk through a million little rooms with spas to get outside to the main one. Very cool though hanging out in the ancient baths. Everyone wears bikinis and speedos no matter what body type so you don't feel body conscious there either! I got burnt (of course) but it wasn't too bad and it was the first time in a year and a half that my body has actually got to experience sunlight!! :)
It's good walking everywhere because we always manage to see alot more then we would otherwise and often run into random markets like today. We went past the hero memorial, and some really cool old buildings and parks. The markets were fun too, I had some of the mini doughnuts (although the giant doughnuts which are about 4 x the regular size if an australian doughnut did look rather tempting!) and tried some of the Hungarian sausage (which was amazing).
Today I also had my first experience with pick-pocketers, as I was coming out of a near empty walkway (for some reason they build pedestrian access underground at traffic intersections instead of just putting a button there?) and a woman walked in-between me and henry when there was heaps of room on either side while two guys walked only a step behind me and I felt one of them tug on my bag, turned around and yanked it away from him and checked all the pockets while he tried to tell me that he was reaching for my cardigan because he dropped ash on it. Dodgy. Put me on edge though which is probably a good thing.
For dinner we went to a really nice restaurant where I had duck with plums and potato soufflé which rocked my world a little. Everything's pretty cheap here so we didn't feel guilty splurging. The boys later found a 1.5 litre of beer in a plastic bottle with a screw cap lid for about $2.80 Australian and attempted to drink it. (I don't think it tasted as good 1litre down)
Tomorrow we start our tour and meet some new people which should be fun! We've still got to visit the palace and do a few other things so it's lucky in the end that we had these extra couple of days to spend checking out the sites
